The 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil won’t trigger a global spread of Zika virus, with little risk of infected competitors and spectators sparking widespread local transmissions back in their home countries, public health experts say.

Currently, the yellow fever and Asian tiger mosquito species carry the virus, but haven’t appeared in Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo Counties.
The group has also used social media to advance its message, most recently after Landrieu announced Wednesday (Aug. 3) the city would take a more aggressive approach to prevent the Zika virus from being spread from mosquitoes to humans.

Westchester County health officials are stepping up their efforts to control the mosquito population as a way to combat and prevent the spread of the Zika virus. The state says women should be able to begin picking up the repellent August 9. It also includes pregnant women and any newborns who have laboratory evidence of Zika infection but don’t qualify as Zika cases because they have had no symptoms or because the infection couldn’t specifically be identified as Zika virus. That number reflected three pregnant women confirmed with Zika.
Among them is a Louisiana exterminator who is hawking a $1,678 outdoor mosquito misting system as the “Zika Cube”.
Hellerstedt said that the Gulf Coast is particularly susceptible. “Some people may be reluctant to use insect repellent but it may help keep both mosquitoes and ticks away”, said Cooper. But the virus has been spreading across the Caribbean and Florida, where 14 people have been infected by local mosquitoes.

“Some of our customers bought one of our repellents and after seeing the dynamic results, they purchased more units of the same kind”, said the spokesperson.
