As a way to celebrate an occasion in China, people see it as an opportunity to don insane hairstyles such as the monkey haircut for the New Year.
The event, hosted by Beijing International Cultural Exchange Center and Beauty Media and sponsored by ICN TV Network and Beijing Opera and Arts College, is of vital importance to the cultural communication between China and the United States.
With the Chinese Spring Festival just around the corner, China and the world are enthusiastically preparing themselves for the most important celebration in the Chinese calendar: the Lunar New Year. It is only befitting that they should start off one of their first dance of the New Lunar Year at the first Chinese & Thai Restaurant in Las Vegas.
With huge numbers of global guests descending upon Southern California theme park’s in recent years, Lunar New Year is a new yearly tradition that has seemed to hit most theme parks in the area, Universal Studios Hollywood included. The festival is celebrated by everyone and, in a country of extreme wealth that is also home to 7% of the world’s poor, the way that it is celebrated varies greatly. Although I’ve been used to celebrating the New Year without firecrackers in NY over the years, I’m extremely excited to receive these wishes from my home country today.
Lana Tomasak from Scranton was at the celebration with her stepmother Kelly – who is Chinese.
After the Spring Festival ends, most people return to work and cities fill right back up.
The monkey falls in the ninth year. Older family members give younger family members red envelopes filled with money. But the cleaning needs to be done before the lunar new year – Chen told Refinery29 that washing your hair and cleaning during the first three days of the Chinese New Year are thought to “wash away the good luck”.
