However, according to Sky Sport Italia, Fiorentina and Montella are now close to reaching an agreement that would allow the former Italy worldwide to join Sampdoria, with the deal expected to be completed this afternoon.
Sampdoria sacked Zenga last week after a 2-0 home defeat to Fiorentina dropped them to 10th place in Serie A, 11 points behind leaders Fiorentina.
Montella, spent three seasons as a player at the club from 1996 to 1999 and returned for a further spell on loan in the 2007/08 season. My dream was to coach Samp, even just for one day, since I started coaching the youth players at Roma.
In June, he resigned but remained under contract at Fiorentina, who have reportedly given up a clause setting a fee of €5 million ($5.4 million) for his release.
“Montella has signed a contract keeping him at the club until 30 June, 2018”.

Montella has today thanked the Della Valle family (the Tuscan club’s owners) and has confirmed his attachment to the viola and the importance of his experience in Florence for his career.
