After serving his engine penalty in Spa – a punishment which has been looming over him since the opening races of the season – Hamilton is now the firm favourite to seal his third title in as many years.

As Spa and Monza are back-to-back, Renault took the decision to swap Magnussen to a spare RS16 and send out another chassis as a back-up for this weekend’s race.

“I’d say another podium is certainly a high”, Ricciardo said of last week’s race.

“It’s great to know you have the team and the auto to just go out there and lay it on the line”. It wasn’t a straightforward weekend for us – but everybody did a fantastic job and the vehicle kept improving with every session, so hopefully that puts us on a good curve as we head to another legendary track in Monza.

“It is going to be a challenging circuit for us but it’s one I’ve always enjoyed so I’m looking forward to that. I can’t wait to get back out there”. “The tifosi (crowd) create such an incredible atmosphere every single time, no matter who wins the race”. If I can repeat that it would be wonderful but we’ll see how we look when we get there.

Though the team’s focus has shifted to 2017, he said there would be a few small upgrades added to the auto in the upcoming races.
