After returning from a West Coast road trip in which they played ten games in 11 days, going 5-5 in those games, the Baltimore Orioles started a two-game home series with the Boston Red Sox, who are now on an 11-game road trip of four different cities.

Toronto’s Russell Martin homered twice, including a go-ahead shot in an eight-run eighth inning as the Blue Jays overran the Yankees and won 12-6. Betts is hitting.315 with 28 homers, 89 RBIs, 93 runs, and 18 stolen bases. He would add two more homers and five more RBI’s tonight in which both homers broke ties in the game. The Red Sox scored when Jackie Bradley Jr., who reached based on a hit by pitch, crossed the plate three batters later on a single by Travis Shaw.

Syndergaard (10-7), the losing pitcher in Arizona’s 9-0 rout of the Mets in NY last week, went 5 2/3 innings, giving up four runs, two earned, and seven hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.

Price (11-8) was cruising until a driving storm stopped play, and the game was finally called after a delay of 1 hour, 17 minutes.

The Cubs extended their NL Central lead by winning both games of the double-header against Milwaukee, 4-0 in the opener and 4-1 in the night game. He pitched two scoreless innings and for the moment was able to keep the collective team no hitter alive.

Rodriguez finished with seven strikeouts and two walks. The rookie allowed the two homers and five runs in 4 1/3 innings. Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (left biceps strain) returned from a one-game absence on Wednesday and went 0-for-4.2. Kimbrel came out for the 9th and had himself a nice, easy, peasy 9th inning to secure the win and his 21st save of the season. He’s entrenched in the top 10 of almost every major offensive category, and it’s his lumber that is making the Boston lineup go in such a pivotal stretch of the season. Holliday will have surgery on his right thumb and could miss the remainder of the regular season, while Maness will have Tommy John surgery, likely sidelining him until 2018. Garcia gave up five runs and seven hits in five innings, including three home runs. In the third inning, Betts swung at anything sniffing the strike zone that looked flat enough to hit, striking a 93-mph fastball into right field. Marc Rzepczynski came on and the A’s opted to intentionally walk Adrian Beltre, reloading the bases.

The Dodgers moved ahead of the Giants into the NL West lead by beating Philadelphia 15-5, with former long-term Phillies player Chase Utley capping the rout with a grand slam in his first game back at his old stomping ground. They’ve won seven of 10 versus American League East rivals as well, and are 4-1 in their last five games after scoring five runs or more in their previous game.

Baltimore ended up batting around and tying the game at 3. But Bradley reached out and showed off that surprising power of his, lifting the ball to center field and out for a two-run shot to make it 3-1.

More than four months into the 2016 season, Price has given up 173 hits, most in baseball entering his start against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday Night Baseball (7 p.m. ET on ESPN/WatchESPN). Boyd was not quite as strong in his only previous appearance against the Red Sox, when he failed to record an out while serving up seven runs and six hits on July 2, 2015.WALK-OFFS1.
