Morales drives in 4, leads Duffy, Royals over White Sox
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale allowed four runs (three earned) against the Kansas Royals on Friday on the way to his sixth complete game of the season. Whit Merrifield had three hits and two RBIs. The team that rose from the dead on multiple occasions during both their 2014 AL Pennant run and their 2015 World Series victory won’t pull off one last revival act, and they’ll be playoff spectators for the first time since 2013.

The Royals matched the White Sox’ first inning run when Jarrod Dyson and Whit Merrfield reached on singles to open the game.
Kansas City Royals left-hander Danny Duffy has one complete game in his six seasons in the major leagues and it came against his next opponent.
Herrera (2-5) blew his third save in 14 chances. A two-run lead in the eighth inning wouldn’t normally be the best time to send a message, but Frazier did hit a three-run homer off Herrera in the Sox’ only previous victory at Kauffman this year, and Herrera would have the longest rap sheet on the KC staff if it weren’t for Yordano Ventura. That upped Kennedy’s pitch count to 45 while retiring only three batters and prodded pitching coach Dave Eiland to visit the mound. Soria allowed a double to Avasail Garcia to score one of the inherited baserunners, but managed to hand off a one-run lead to closer Wade Davis.
Sale retired the first 13 batters he faced before giving up seven hits and four runs to the next 10 batters. The error led to Cuthbert and Perez scoring to tie the game. Dozier himself scored to make it 3-1 after Eric Hosmer poked a single through the middle of the infield. Whit Merrifield pushed a ideal bunt down the third base line for a single, moving Dyson to second. Abreu singled with one out, his 12th multi-hit game in 18 games.
Avisail Garcia’s double, which struck the third base bag, scored Jose Abreu in the eighth for the final White Sox run. Tepesch, who is a Missouri alumnus, is 7-15 in 35 games, including 33 starts, in the majors with the Rangers and Dodgers.
White Sox: INF Tyler Saladino was out for the second straight game with a left calf issue. “I felt pretty good about where I was able to throw the ball and how it went”. He was scheduled to throw batting practice Friday, but a pregame rain canceled that.
The White Sox are 4-1 in their last 5 during game 4 of a series and 4-1 in Rodons last 5 starts. The move was made to make roster space for LHP Jason Vargas, who came off the 60-day disabled list and started Saturday.
