More Backstage News On Why The Women’s Title Changed Hands On RAW

PWInsider reports that two factors contributed to putting the Women’s Title on Sasha Banks before SummerSlam.

Sasha Banks and Charlotte will supposedly still be having their match at SummerSlam next month, and the WWE creative team felt that having Sasha win on Raw this past week would only make that feud more complex and exciting.

The Boss and Charlotte put on one of the best main-roster women’s matches in recent memory on Raw, and they set a high bar for themselves to reach or top with regard to their tilt at SummerSlam. Vince is said to be a big fan of Charlotte’s work.

The title was still called the Divas Championship when she initially won it, but after beating Banks and Becky Lynch in a Triple Threat at WrestleMania, she became the first Women’s champion since the belt was brought back into existence.

The report stated that it could also be because Charlotte’s prior reign has been unquestioned that she may be opening her doors to new storylines instead of constantly jousting against Banks who is easily the most popular female fighter. Being the daughter of Ric Flair, then doing everything possible to win a match may just what Charlotte resorts to in a big pay-per-view event.

Heading into 2016, Charlotte was Women’s Champion, but Banks was pursuing the title.
