Hillary Clinton’s campaign was reportedly breached as part of a widepsread cyberattack on Democrats, Reuters reported Friday.

Days after thousands of Democratic National Committee emails damaging to Ms Clinton’s nomination were leaked, it has been revealed that email systems specifically used in her election campaign have also been hacked in the same attack.

CNN reported Friday evening the Federal Bureau of Investigations is investigating the hack of Clinton’s campaign.

President Barack Obama has said Russian Federation was nearly certainly responsible for the hack of the Democratic National Committee, an assertion with which cybersecurity experts have agreed.

Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic Party has had to deal with fallout from the hacking of the national party’s computers. “Based on the information we have to date, we’ve been advised by investigators that this is similar to other recent incidents, including the DNC breach”, national press secretary Meredith Kelly said in a statement.

According to an official involved in the probe, the breach into the congressional committee’s systems was headed by “Fancy Bear”, a group associated with Russian military intelligence service GRU.

On late Friday, a Clinton campaign spokesperson Nick Merrill confirmed that a DNC data analytics program used by the Clinton team was accessed as part of the DNC hack.

Reuters reported Thursday that the FBI had opened an investigation into a digital intrusion at the DCCC.

“We have taken and are continuing to take steps to enhance the security of our network”, the DCCC said. The Department of Justice is investigating. Party officials deny such claims, stating that external cyber experts were hired and they didn’t find any evidence of a breach in the system.

The previously unreported hack of the DCCC is likely to have been aimed at gathering information on donors rather than steal funds, four sources told Reuters.
