He immediately killed himself outside the Taylor Sportsplex in Taylor.
Local television stations report that the mother and daughter were leaving soccer practice when a man approached and shot them.
He then used his 9 mm pistol to take his own life in the parking lot next to their vehicle, witnesses told police.
It was a happy interaction, police said, and Obeshaw had been at the girl’s practices and games before.
People who saw the shooting said he opened fire at the vehicle after a confrontation, shooting Emma first and then her mother. They say he was giving Emma a hug, and there was no sign of a problem.
Taylor – Police officials are expected Friday to release more details about a Thursday night shooting at a municipal sports facility that left one dead and two injured, including a child, officials said.
Police said family members described 57-year-old Obeshaw – who had lived with with Watson and her boyfriend at their home in Belleville before recently moving to a home in Taylor – as mentally unstable.
Mrs Watson remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital and requires further surgery.
In a press conference held Friday, Sclabassi said police are investigating to determine the Obeshaws motive.
Police said Obeshaw registered the handgun in his name in Belleville in September and was a certified CPL holder. Though Obeshaw was not believed to be romantically involved with Watson either, he was possibly taken up by her, Sclabassi added.

The chief also said the shooting adds to an ongoing debate.
