More magic: JK Rowling conjures new Potter story on website pottermore.com

With a new story on Pottermore, J.K. Rowling introduced us to Harry’s grandparents – and great-grandparents, and grandparents with scores of “greats” before them.

The new design comes at a cost, however, as some fan favorite features from the old Pottermore site had to go, at least temporarily. “Linfred was a vague and absent-minded fellow whose Muggle neighbours often called upon his medicinal services”.

Years after the seventh book in the Harry Potter series was released, Rowling gave fans the nitty gritty on the background of James Potter’s side of the family. As the oldest heir to Ignotus Peverell (of the “Tale of Three Brothers” fame), Iolanthe inherited the invisibility cloak, which was then passed down to from generation to generation.

Fast forward to the 20th century, where Fleamont Potter, a distant descendant of Linfred of Stinchcombe, “took the family gold and quadrupled it”.

“You’re a wizard, Harry”, Hagrid told Harry Potter about his magical lineage in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the very first installment of J.K. Rowling’s massively popular book series. The updated fansite-which still features original writing from Rowling in addition to new articles by an unnamed “Pottermore correspondent” like “11 times Snape was the hardest teacher to please” and “The 5 Death Eaters you’ll never forget”-has some fans feeling a bit frustrated”.
