Anna Meares has clarified comments she made about Great Britain’s success at the Olympics, stressing she has no suspicions that they have been guilty of cheating.
“I have my ideas about certain things”.
German Kristina Vogel defied the British domination to win an emotional sprint gold medal. “The London Games were absolutely fantastic, but to come back again to an away Games and deliver this level of performance”.
“I don’t want to accuse anyone of anything but it is all very questionable”, she said.
“Some of the people here are not even performing at the level of World Championships”.
A look at the 2015 UCI Track Cycling World Championships shows just three silvers to GB’s name, but British Cycling were aware that this was not on the agenda.
He said they have an incredible coaching team and he’s excited how they can work that programme going forward.
He added: “Around track centre, I think we get a lot of admiration for what we do”.
Rio 2016 is officially Great Britain’s best overseas Olympics after they surpassed the Beijing tally of 47 medals with five days of action still to go.
Britain have regularly topped the medal table since, with Germany and Australia the other usual suspects.
The hugely successful team, which has already won four gold and three silvers in the velodrome at Rio, has been subjected to underhand barbs about its stellar performance.
And France sprint coach Laurent Gane, said: “The recipe should be asked for from our neighbours because I don’t understand”.
With a total medal tally of 50, Team GB’s athletes look well on their way to match the 65 medals picked up at London 2012.
Like any prize victor, from a jackpot hitter to a Nobel Prize recipient, the athletes are taxed because Olympic medals and cash bonuses are considered income, said Steven Gill, associate professor of accounting at San Diego State University.
Many commentators said that enjoying sport, rather than obsessing about gold medals, was increasingly important to China.

No doubt investigations will begin into their own lack of medals, so it will be interesting to see where their fingers are pointed once the mayhem of Rio dies down.
