Anna Meares has clarified comments she made about Great Britain’s success at the Olympics, stressing she has no suspicions that they have been guilty of cheating.

“I have my ideas about certain things”.

German Kristina Vogel defied the British domination to win an emotional sprint gold medal. “The London Games were absolutely fantastic, but to come back again to an away Games and deliver this level of performance”.

“I don’t want to accuse anyone of anything but it is all very questionable”, she said.

And France sprint coach Laurent Gane, said: “The recipe should be asked for from our neighbours because I don’t understand”.

With a total medal tally of 50, Team GB’s athletes look well on their way to match the 65 medals picked up at London 2012.

Many commentators said that enjoying sport, rather than obsessing about gold medals, was increasingly important to China.
