More Parking, Added Concessions: Midway Airport Set for Major Upgrade

Almost $250 million of improvements are coming to Midway worldwide Airport, the city of Chicago announced Thursday, including additions and renovations at its security checkpoints, parking garage and concessions. Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s office provided sketches of the plan that would expand parking, security checkpoints and concession facilities. Of this funding, $210,000 will be used to purchase additional equipment.

Midway Airport is about to get a major upgrade. According to the mayor’s office, this is the largest investment at Midway in almost 10 years.

Greater than eight, 000 houses and about 40 faculties close to Halfway have acquired federally funded soundproofing because the 1990s, based on the town. “This federal investment will ensure that this critical transportation link can continue to grow while limiting disturbance to the children and families who live nearby”.

Complaints from residents of the South and Southwest sides and suburbanites have soared because the FAA modified flight paths in February 2014. Noise complaints almost doubled between April and June, totaling 4,844 from complaints made in the first quarter of 2015.

The grant will fund sound insulation at homes that experience higher than normal sound volume near the airport.

“Our proposal will make Midway Airport more efficient and more customer friendly for years to come”, Aviation Commissioner Ginger S. Evans said in a statement.
