Alejandra Ventura lifts her dog out of the water after the Brazos River topped its banks and flooded a mobile home park in Richmond, Texas, on Tuesday.

That’s three feet higher than the previous record, set during flooding in 1994.

More than 20 inches (50.8 cm)of rain have fallen over some parts of southeast Texas during the last month, 8 inches (20.3 cm)to 10 inches (25.4 cm) above normal, Burke said.

Most of the deaths were in Washington County between Austin and Houston. Lake Somerville, one of the Brazos reservoirs, was “gushing uncontrollably” over the spillway, threatening people downriver, he said.

River crested at almost 54 feet today in Fort Bend County, just southwest of Houston. Inmates in a low-level security camp at a third prison in the area are being moved to the main prison building, Clark said. The bodies of two missing motorists were found on Saturday in separate parts of the county, according to Judge John Brieden.

Aerial shots over Rosenberg show the extent of the damage the flooding has done to homes in the area. Photos from the area showed campers and trailers stacked against each other, but no injuries were reported.

Evacuation orders have been issued for parts of Rosenberg, another town along the Brazos and not far from Richmond.

Wolf said any additional rain in the region would be a problem.

“The ditches are full, the river’s high, there’s nowhere else for that water to go”, county spokeswoman Beth Wolf told the AP.

“This level of water in the river has not been seen in many of our lifetimes and we urge residents to heed these warnings”, Jeff Braun, director of the emergency management office in Fort Bend County, said on the agency’s website.

More heavy rain is expected Thursday and Friday.

Elsewhere, an 11-year-old boy was missing and presumed dead in Kansas and Tropical Depression Bonnie weakened near the SC coast.
