More risky heat Friday after stormy Thursday night

Warnings of blistering temperatures were expanded Friday to include parts of 26 states as a days-long “heat dome” scorched much of the nation, triggering risky thunderstorms.

On Saturday, temperatures reached a high of 98, but felt more like 100, the National Weather Service said.

After an overnight low around 71 with patchy fog after 3 a.m., Saturday should features patchy fog before 11 a.m., a 30 percent chance for showers and storms, mainly after 5 p.m., mostly sunny skies, a high near 91, heat index values as high as 96, and light east winds becoming south at 5 to 10 miles per hour in the morning. Thursday will bring hot and humid conditions with another chance of storms.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 94.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.

With the heat and moisture around the area, there will be daily storm chances.

Sunny skies are expected today, with a high near 93. The low at night will be around 70. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

The chance of showers and thunderstorms continues into Monday Night under mostly cloudy conditions and a low around 71.

From Austin to Boston, temperatures were forecast to be push triple digits, with isolated spots reaching 115 degrees.
