More shoppers go online for Black Friday bargains

The signs were everywhere, advertising today only deals and Black Friday doorbusters. Inside the stores, live feeds at checkout lines monitor for interruptions. Last year the mall stayed open overnight, but it closed at midnight this year and reopened at 6 Friday morning.

Currys PC World also reported its biggest-ever start to Black Friday with eight sales per second and 100 large screen TVs selling per minute online.

“There were literally thousands of people in that mall and all of them were going about their business, shopping, cheerful, smiles on their faces, enjoying themselves – we had no other incidents at the mall other than that one unfortunate incident”, he said.

One major drawback is the lack of cultural relevance: Thanksgiving does not exist in the United Kingdom and Black Friday has been introduced into the United Kingdom market as an entirely random happening.
