More than 10 million watch Great British Bake Off’s semi-final

In this week’s issue, Nadiya is joined by her fellow competitors Ian Cumming, Flora Sedden and Tamal Ray – who revealed for the first time in his life he’s been praying for a spot in next week’s final.

Ian, who impressed the judges Mary Berry and Paul with his creations and was crowned star baker three weeks in a row, is getting on our nerves a bit now.

His homegrown bay leaves mixed into a caramel infused tart left Paul disappointed in the “king of flavour” though.

Another added: “I love how much Nadiya swooned then when Paul shook her hand #GBBO”.

Last night an anxious Flora, Ian, Nadiya and Tamal attempted to master a chocolate tart, a chocolate soufflé and a few chocolate centrepieces for good measure, with the genteel drama prompting 74,668 tweets during broadcast. That would have still been an impressive showstopper if she’d have had eight hours to complete it. Nadiya really seems to be on a roll now and I can’t wait to watch next week’s final.

“There were moments when I did feel my age and that I was lacking a certain experience”, the Bake Off’s youngest contestant revealed.

“Oh yeah, coz they’re a pain to make” she said as she attempted to grapple with the soggy mess before her. While Mel and Sue innocently pondered why the baking kit included paperclips, clearly at the end of her chocolate rope, Nadiya snapped back in a characteristic acerbic tone: “Yes, for filing it away in the folder that says NEVER BAKE AGAIN”.

With the girls both earning top and bottom placings in the first two challenges, and Ian and Tamal sitting precariously in the middle, it was all to play for in the Showstopper which required the semi-finalists to create a 3D chocolate center piece.

Flora comes from a big family of bakers and can’t remember ever not baking, and with this in mind the standards have to be high to impress her harshest critics – her sisters.

Writing on Twitter, she said: “THANKS EVERYONE!”

Talent agent Tony Fitzpatrick said: Miss Shedden could do very well – she will have publishing opportunities.

‘If she plays her cards right she could be set for the rest of her life’.

The teenager has now started a degree in art history at the University of St Andrews, having worked at an art gallery near her Perthshire home in Scotland during filming. ‘Nigella Lawson hasn’t done badly out of it has she?’
