More than 100 homes destroyed in Australian bushfires
On Christmas Day, over 1600 residents and holidaymakers were forced to evacuate from Lorne to Torquay as thick smoke started to cover the town.

Authorities say overnight rain has provided help for the firefighting effort.
Top emergency officers warned that dry circumstances posed a menace of extra fires for the Great Ocean Road space and the remainder of Victoria.
“We need to acknowledge that Thursday and Friday present a significant fire challenge for the entire state”, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews told reporters on Monday.
The Falls Music and Arts Festival, which is held annually near Lorne, may not go ahead because of the fires, its organisers said.
Mr Lapsley said the immediate fire threat had eased, but the fire would continue to burn “for weeks”.
It’s not yet known when residents of Wye River and its surrounds will be able to return for good, but we doubt we’re alone in wishing them all the best when that time comes.
An emergency warning is still in place for Wye River, Separation Creek, Kennett River and Grey River.
Water bombing aircraft made a minimal impact on the fires, officials said, as flames set entire trees and hillsides alight in communities along the Great Ocean Road, a major tourist attraction southwest of Melbourne.
“At the moment, I’m at the Surf Club in Wye River just looking up the hill at the couple of residences that have been destroyed by the fire”, he told AAP on Saturday afternoon.
A bush fire that flared in a scenic area of southern Australia on Christmas Day has destroyed 53 houses, officials said Saturday.
About 85 houses in Wye River and 18 at Separation Creek were engulfed by fire that has burned more than 2,000 hectares in the Australian state, according to the report.
Those not in the area have been asked to reconsider travel plans, with the Great Ocean Road still closed between Bellbrae west of Torquay, and Lorne.
‘All these businesses rely on this time of year to carry them through the rest of the year, ‘ Mr Kayler-Thomson said.
