Google’s Android for Work program makes it easier for businesses to allow their employees to safely use their Android phones for both work and personal use.

The partnership with Android for Work is an expansion of Silent Circle’s attempts to appeal to enterprise customers.
Blackphone 2 will be released this fall and it will feature support for Google Play and Google Mobile Services as well as support for Android for Work.
Google’s Android for Work initiative has gained another significant partner, as security specialist Silent Circle announces its support. The device comes with a 64-bit eight-core processor, a 1,920×1,080-pixel 5.5-inch screen protected by Gorilla Glass 3, 3GB of memory, a non-removable quick-charging 3,060mAh battery and expandable storage through a microSD port. The phone offers encrypted calls, messages and contacts for subscribers to a special Silent Circle app. Running on an Android derivative called PrivatOS, the only downside to the phone is that the person on the other side of a call has to be running the same special app in order for the encryption to function. The move was a logical one for Silent Circle, which acknowledged in March that despite its first handset being designed for privacy-seeking individuals, three-quarters of its sales revenue came from the corporate world. Silent Circle has previously said the device will retail for $629.
The Android for Work program took off with the help of our partners across the Android ecosystem, and today we’re expanding the family to 40 companies to continue the momentum, including new device manufacturers, application makers and management providers.
The program’s flexibility in offering customizable solutions is a strong fit for Silent Circle’s “privacy without compromise” approach.
“Privacy is about being able to decide and control what information to share and how you share it”, said Silent Circle’s President and CEO Bill Conner in today’s announcement.
