More than 250 arrested as Notting Hill Carnival marks 50th anniversary

The partygoers were filmed giving the officer the saucy dance while he was on duty at the two day festival in north west London.

It is celebrated over Sunday and Monday, which is celebrated as a “Summer Bank Holiday” in the United Kingdom, and is believed to attract around 1 million people as West Indies origin Britons come together for the celebrations.

A 15-year-old was stabbed in Wornington Road and a 14-year-old was arrested for GBH.

Two 15-year-old boys and a 16-year-old are among four people stabbed at the Children’s Day Parade of the Notting Hill Carnival in London. There were 440 arrests in total, and many of them were related to drugs and offensive weapons. The canisters have a street value of over £2,000. “I think many Londoners will wonder whether the significant amount of taxpayers’ money spent policing this event is frankly worth it”.

In one police operation 120 bottles and over 500 cans of beer being sold illegally on the street were seized in Dartmouth Close road.

The investigations have been referred to trading standards officers.

The carnival continued into Monday.

Meanwhile keen dancer Jasmin Castrioty, 25, said she had “loved” her first experience of carnival, saying: “The rhythm is absolutely stunning”.

A man also approached officers at Kensal Rise tube station, telling them that he had been stabbed, before leaving the scene.

Teacher Jan Harvey, who is originally from Jamaica, said: “Everybody is enjoying themselves, there is no trouble and there is a good atmosphere”.

Victoria Borwick, MP for Kensington, said the two-day celebration had plunged parts of her constituency into violent crime and disorder, and that a conversation was needed with organisers on how best to run the event next year.
