More than 60000 homes damaged in Louisiana flooding

“We welcome (Trump) to (Louisiana), but not for a photo-op”.

After a man remarked that Obama might be “under-par while we’re underwater”, Trump responded with a wry smile: “He’ll never be under-par.”

“I asked [Obama] if he could wait until the response was over and we got into the recovery phase, which I predicted we would do over the weekend, and certainly next week would be a better time for us to visit”, Edwards said Sunday.

Trump made his high-profile visit to Baton Rouge, La., last Friday with his running mate, Indiana Gov.

FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate said his agency was preparing for “a very large response” to help flood victims and the immediate issue was finding a safe place for affected residents to stay.

Trump and Pence helped hand out supplies to the crowd and then Trump went into a room to thank National Guard members.

“I’ve had a great history with Louisiana”. “What’s happened here is incredible. It’s really incredible. So, I’m just here to help”.

Louisiana governor John Bel Edwards discusses the flooding at a press conference. That’s one thing I want people to understand. “They can be replaced”. That is what we must do now in Louisiana, and I am committed to standing with Louisianans every step of the way. He’s got to get busy.

Trump gave Jimmy Morgan and his wife each a hug, telling them: “You’re going to rebuild”.

In St Amanat, one of the worst-flooded towns of southern Louisiana, teams continued to go door to door in search of survivors and bodies on Sunday.

Pence, along with his wife Karen and daughter Charlotte, arrived before Trump this morning and received a briefing on the damage.

Five feet (1.5 meters) of water swept through the homes in the quiet Park Forest neighborhood just over a week ago, shocking residents who had been told they did not live in a flood zone.

However, Trump’s decision to tour the flood-ravaged areas was met with harsh words from Edwards.

Trump’s own visit was a departure for the candidate, who has largely avoided the kind of unscripted, intimate interactions that power most candidates’ early primary campaigns. “Though words can not express the sadness one feels at times like this, I hope everyone in Louisiana knows that our country is praying for them and standing with them to help them in these hard hours”.

According to Atlanta Black Star, a State of Emergency was declared after the floods claimed the lives of at least six people, while over 20,000 more had to be rescued from their homes.
