Morgan Stanley, which is in the midst of a $1 billion cost cutting program, said total non-interest expenses fell 8.4 percent to $6.43 billion in the quarter.
During this quarter, the firm repurchased about 23 million shares.
While today’s results are encouraging in the short-term, Morgan Stanley has failed for quite a long time to provide investors with a return worth getting excited about. It has underperformed by 21.64% the S&P500. This means 53% are positive.
Following the results, Evercore ISI analyst Glenn Schorr issued a report cheekily titled “Morgan Stanley Beats on FICC (not a typo) & Cost Control”. A COO in the company, Rosenthal James A, on Friday February 26, 2016 collected $1,256,500 from the sale of 50,000 shares at $28.21 each. Its up 0.37, from 0.73 in 2015Q4.
It’s also the most ground the firm has gained over Goldman Sachs since the first quarter of 2015, when the roles were reversed and Goldman’s FICC revenues slightly surpassed those of Morgan Stanley. 67 funds bought stakes while 297 increased positions.
Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) declared a quarterly dividend on Wednesday, July 20th. Grisanti Capital Management Llc owns 566,415 shares or 6.67% of their United States portfolio.
“Even though we haven’t seen a pickup in retail engagement, [the wealth-management] business continues to provide stability against an uncertain macro backdrop”, Chief Financial Officer Jonathan Pruzan said during a conference call Wednesday to discuss earnings. Wellcome Trust Ltd (The) As Trustee Of The Wellcome Trust, a United Kingdom-based fund reported 8.36 million shares.
