Sophomore guard James Blackmon Jr. was named to the watch list for the 2016 Jerry West Award, which honors the nation’s top shooting guard.
Morris, a junior, is listed for the Bob Cousy Award, given to the nation’s best point guard.
Both watch lists will be narrowed down to 10 in mid-February and then five finalists will be selected in March. The victor of the 2016 Bob Cousy Award will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show live from Club Nokia in Los Angeles, California, on Friday, April 8, 2016. Like McKay, Morris also was named preseason All-Big 12 honorable mention. He was unanimously named first team all-conference and picked up All-Metropolitan and NABC All-Region honors.
Like the Karl Malone Award, this is the second year of the Julius Erving Award. Niang averaged 15.3 points per game last season while earning All-American honors. The Methuen, Massachusetts, native, returns for his senior season fifth among active NCAA Division I players in scoring (1,510) and the only player with 1,500 points, 450 rebounds and 300 assists.
