Mortal Kombat X on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 officially cancelled

It says the publisher comes to the “regrettable conclusion that we can not release Mortal Kombat X for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360”.

Warner has announced the cancelation of Mortal Kombat X for Xbox 360 and PS3, after two previous delays.

So what happened? NetherRealm passed off development of the last-gen versions to High Voltage Software, and it doesn’t sound like they were able to bring the game to life on older hardware. Good on you Warner Bros. and sorry to those that had wanted to play it on last generation consoles.

A cynic may argue that Warner Bros had no incentive to further fund this port, as the game has sold gangbusters on the PlayStation 4, and still appears in sales charts some four or five months since its initial release. Unfortunately for fighting game fans still using the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, one recent game isn’t going to make it to their consoles at all. As such, the game has been officially cancelled for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Like most cross-generation games, the PS3/Xbox 360 version of Mortal Kombat X would have been considerably less impressive than its PS4/Xbox One counterpart.

Warner Bros. already got some flack this year with the botched PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Mortal Kombat X were due to be released in April 2015 around the same time as the current-gen versions.
