Mosque vandalized with graffiti in Burlington

Police are investigating the vandalism of a mosque in Burlington, Massachusetts.

Burlington police Chief Michael Kent said a member of the Islamic Center on Lexington Street called police about 1:45 a.m. yesterday after seeing the graffiti and other damage.

Investigators saw “USA” written multiple times in red spray paint outside the building and found smashed eggs outside the building.

‘This behavior is not tolerated in our town and the suspects will be held responsible for their actions’.

They appeared in a Woburn court on Monday, but said nothing, according to WBZ-TV’s Bill Shields.

Two men were caught on surveillance camera near the Islamic Center of Burlington. The second suspect is about 6 feet tall, thin, and was wearing khakis, a black hooded sweatshirt, tan boots and cloth over his face, Burlington police said.

A third person stayed in a white Ford Crown Victoria. “It is very serious”. The Lowell Sun reports that the mosque in Burlington was vandalized in 2013 with similar tagging.

Worshipers were inside the mosque when it was vandalized.

In a statement, the group suggests the graffiti reflects growing anti-Islamic sentiment that Muslim are not “real” Americans.
