Most CLPs back Jeremy Corbyn – but Owen Smith thrives in south London

285 out of 387 constituencies voted for Corbyn, compared to just 53 who backed challenger Owen Smith.

A campaign spokesman said: “Jeremy Corbyn is the only candidate who can draw on support from Labour members right across our country”.

JEREMY CORBYN was forced to sit on the floor on a three-hour train journey because of overcrowding, it emerged yesterday as the Labour leader unveiled plans to “rebuild and transform” Britain’s public transport system.

In a video shot as he was on his way to debate with Mr Smith in the Labour leadership hustings in Gateshead, Corbyn is seen sitting on the floor of the train, a coffee and brown paper bag at his feet, reading Private Eye magazine.

“What this result shows, is that members here in Sefton Central strongly support Jeremy Corbyn’s new type of politics, with closer engagement with communities”.

She added: “I don’t feel welcome by huge swathes of now the Labour Party”.

“And I will oppose this, I will oppose this root and branch and if I’m the leader of the Labour Party it will be an absolute red line for me that we want a public NHS, publicly-funded, 100% publicly-funded and we need to see less private provision in the NHS, not more”. There’s 300,000 people who’ve joined Labour recently.

‘Bear in mind that the Conservatives were so afraid of allowing their members to have a say that they sent Andrea Leadsom into a room with a revolver and the bottle of whisky rather than take a chance, ‘ he said.

“But the case wasn’t in vain – although we didn’t succeed in reclaiming votes for the 130,000 disenfranchised members, we did win in the High Court, exposing facts which have spurred important conversations about the role of the Labour Party membership and the NEC (National Executive Committee)”.

Asked twice if he had full confidence in Mr McNicol, Mr Corbyn repeatedly stated: “I have been happy to work with Iain McNicol since I became leader”.

“There is nothing new in what Jeremy is saying – he is simply rehashing existing Labour party policy”, a spokesperson for Smith said.

More than 150 members packed in to Maghull Town Hall last Thursday to hear speakers in favour of both candidates in the Labour Party leadership race.

Michael Foster, whose family in the last election contributed more than $500,000 to the party, in an op-ed Sunday in the Daily Mail newspaper referred to Corbyn backers as Sturmabteilung, or SA.

Corbyn supporters also reacted to claims by deputy leader Tom Watson that they were being influenced by “Trotsky entryists”. “This caused the mask of reasonableness of the Corbynista leadership to slip even further”.
