The wife of the building’s superintendent stumbled upon the baby when she was taking out the trash, and cops were called to the scene around 2:45 p.m.

They believe she then threw the baby from the window into the apartment building’s courtyard.
Jennifer Berry is accused of tossing her newborn out of a seventh-floor window.
It wasn’t immediately clear how much time elapsed between the baby’s birth and her fall from the window, officials said.
The city medical examiner ruled that infant’s death a homicide caused by multiple blunt force injuries.
She further said she suspected her daughter was pregnant, but didn’t know for sure, adding that she had been waiting for Jennifer to say something to her.
According to The New York Times, “Ms. Berry, a police official said, apparently hid the final stage of her pregnancy from relatives and friends, including, it appears, her boyfriend”. Berry, who lives in Yonkers, started showing up at the apartment about a year ago, they said.
The mother of a newborn girl found dead in the Bronx Monday has been arrested and charged with murder. The woman said that she suspected her daughter was pregnant, but didn’t know for sure, therefore, she was waiting for Jennifer to say something to her.
Sources said Berry’s first three months with the department were spent in classroom-style training for a Child Protective Specialist position. DeLuca’s 13-month-old son died in 1987 and wants to ensure the baby girl gets buried in a proper grave.

“There was air in the lungs, this was a healthy baby girl”, Assistant District Attorney Georgia Barker said at Berry’s arraignment. In a sad irony, Berry previously worked as a child welfare worker in New York City.
