Mother: Milwaukee shooting victim was 23-year-old black man
New York City police are searching for the man who fatally shot the leader of a mosque and a friend as they left afternoon prayers. According to the Journal Sentinel, one block away, there was a homicide the previous day.

The weekend shooting in Milwaukee is under investigation. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported tha.
The unrest follows peaceful protests and some violence in United States cities over the past two years following high-profile killings by law enforcement officers in Baltimore, New York and Ferguson, Missouri.
“He (officer) ordered that individual to drop his gun, the individual did not drop his gun”, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said.
“A young man lost his life yesterday afternoon”, the mayor said. “And, no matter what the circumstances, his family must be hurting”, he said.
The statement did not say whether he fired any shots or pointed the weapon at officers.
Smith was shot twice – in the arm and chest, the mayor said.
“It was in his hand. I think Chicago set the modern record with a week”, said Flynn. The suspect reportedly had 23 rounds in his gun.
“It was very fast and the individual was armed”, said Chief Flynn.
The National Guard has been activated, but no troops will be deployed unless requested by Milwaukee police. Gov. Scott Walker has put National Guard members at Chief Edward Flynn’s disposal if needed.
Barrett said at the news conference protesters encouraged others to come out and assist with the violent protests by taking to social media.
Six businesses were burned in the unrest that spilled past midnight Sunday.
“It certainly appears to me at the time [the officer] made that decision it was a credible decision”, Flynn said of the decision to shoot Smith.
After dark on Sunday, about a hundred protesters marched to a police station, shouting “Indict”. Police said rioters damaged seven squad cars and that a military-style police vehicle was hit by eight rounds of gunfire.
Clarke said incidents like the police shootings can act as “an igniter to an already festering situation” in troubled communities.
“This is a warning cry”, he added.
“We still need a store to be able to go to in this neighborhood without them burning everything down”, Holmes said.
“We must find a way to strike a balance where we can peacefully point out the racial inequities in our society while recognizing the valuable role police play in our community”. Court records identify Smith as black.
The Journal Sentinel reported Smith was charged a year ago in a shooting and was later charged with pressuring the victim to withdraw evidence that identified him as the gunman. He was subsequently accused of pressuring the victim to recant statements that identified him as the gunman and was charged with trying to intimidate a witness, the newspaper reported.
On Sunday morning, about three dozen volunteers swept up glass and filled trash bags with rocks, bricks and bottles at the intersection where a gas station burned to the ground and bus shelters were knocked over.
Community volunteers have turned out to clean up after violent protests ransacked a north Milwaukee neighborhood following a police shooting.
Darlene Rose, who is 31, says she understands the anger that sparked the protests but that violence won’t solve anything.
“If you love your son, if you love your daughter, text them, call them, pull them by ear and get them home”, Barrett said at the press conference.
If you know there’s a reason, don’t give in to the hand, don’t be going around with big guns, don’t be going around shooting each other and letting them shoot y’all, cause that’s just what they’re doing and they’re out to destroy us and we’re falling for it.
Rainey may be exaggerating about life for African-Americans in Milwaukee.
She asked people for donations for his burial. “I do, however, hope people will give law enforcement the respect they deserve for working so hard to keep us safe”, he said. Almost 40 percent of Milwaukee’s 600,000 residents are black, and heavily concentrated on the north side.
This is the sort of area that the U.S. Department of Justice apparently believes the Baltimore police force pays too much attention to. The officer has been with the Milwaukee department six years, three as an officer. When the officers got in their cars to leave, some in the crowd started smashing the windows and side of a squad auto.
