This baby was found abandoned in a stroller near a church with its umbilical cord attached.
The child was wearing pajamas and was covered in sweat when he was found, and it is estimated the baby was about 1 day old when he was located.
It was not clear why Ramirez allegedly abandoned the child, but the woman’s bail was listed at $100,000 after her arrest on suspicioin of a felony count of child endangerment.
The grandmother was also questioned by police and released, Lopez said. The child was in a stroller on a sidewalk at South Vermont Avenue and Dana Street, about half a mile north of the USC campus, police said. The infant was taken to California Hospital Medical Center and officials determined he was in serious condition.
It was not known why the mother left the baby and additional information about the child’s father and family members was not known. Authorities said the baby was there for more than a day.
“Something inside me just told me to check”, Alex Diaz said. Diaz said he moved the stroller to the shade of a nearby tree “and as soon as I touched him, he started moving and crying”. “You just left him out on the street – threw him out like trash”.

Los Angeles County’s “Safe Surrender” law allows a parent or guardian to give up a newborn at a hospital, fire station or other approved site if the child shows no signs of abuse.
