USA marshals took her in handcuffs through an LAX terminal to an unmarked auto.
Authorities say Couch fled to Mexico with her 18-year-old son as Texas prosecutors investigated whether he violated probation in a drunken-driving case.
A court has granted fugitive Texan teenager Ethan Couch an injunction against his deportation from Mexico to the United States, delaying his return by weeks or months, a Mexican migration official said on Thursday.
Ethan Couch’s attorneys in the US issued a statement Wednesday saying they couldn’t comment on the case because they weren’t licensed to practice law in Mexico.
Couch pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter.
The immigration facility in Guadalajara where they were held is a massive, white building with a towering fence encompassing it. For a few, brief moments before Ethan was driven to Mexico, he was seen walking near the facility’s front gate as he made his was to a transport van.
If Ethan Couch fights extradition, it could be anywhere from weeks to months before he is returned to the United States.
They were taken into custody and handed over to immigration officials.
Ethan Couch and his mother, Tonya, were being hunted as worldwide fugitives after the 18-year-old failed to show up for a routine probation hearing.
“Texas prosecutors have said Tonya Couch will be charged with hindering the apprehension of a juvenile, and if convicted, faces between two and 10 years in jail”. A judge sentenced him in juvenile court to 10 years’ probation and a stint in a rehabilitation centre.
Ethan Couch was driving drunk and speeding near Fort Worth in June 2013 when he crashed into a disabled SUV, killing four people and injuring several others, including passengers in his pickup truck. He and his mother were both to be deported after they were apprehended on Monday in Puerto Vallarta, where they apparently had fled to avoid a potential probation revocation.
Ethan Couch was picked up in a van and taken away from the immigration facility Wednesday afternoon.
Recently video surfaced of Couch at a party where beer pong was being played, and authorities believe he ran because he was going to get in trouble for violating his probation. She told them where Couch and his mother were staying, and Mexican detectives located the apartment and staked it out.
During their last days in Puerto Vallarta, Couch and his mother lived in a modest apartment, kept a low profile and at least once used a false name as they tried to stay under the radar, local people and neighbours said.

“I think it’s particularly satisfying to families that, indeed, it appears that his mother, Tonya, may have committed a crime and may finally be held accountable as well”, he said. When captured, they were turned over to the custody of immigration authorities in Puerto Vallarta.
