Mother of ‘Affluenza’ Teen Won’t Fight Extradition to Texas
Tonya Couch is set for a January 14 court date in Tarrant County, according to her lawyers and court records.

A Fort Worth attorney representing Tonya Couch said the fear of prison for her son probably outweighed the fear of a life on the run.
On Thursday, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to ABC News that she is in segregation, which means that she is effectively in solitary confinement.
Such cases can often take up to several months, depending on the priorities of the local courts, he said.
“At this time we do not have a time frame”.
Mr Richard Hunter, chief deputy marshal in Houston, said it probably would take at least two weeks for the Mexican courts to sort out the youth’s deportation. “It’s on their time schedule”.
Authorities began searching for the pair after Ethan Couch missed a mandatory appointment with his probation officer on December 10.
It could be weeks before Ethan Couch is sent back to the United States. A conviction could result in between two and 10 years in jail.
Tarrant County and the rest of the country is watching to see that the Couch family pay some price for their criminal behavior.
“He doesn’t believe the rules apply to him, he doesn’t believe the laws apply to him”, the sheriff said. That is a violation of his probation rules.
In this case, authorities would be prevented from moving forward with Couch’s deportation until the issue of whether deportation would violate his rights is resolved. The decide might hold him in a juvenile detention facility or ship him to an grownup jail, he stated.
The maximum he could get would be 120 days.
“We think it’s important that juveniles are treated differently”.
Anderson said when Ethan Couch arrives in the United States, he will appear at a detention hearing in the juvenile system.
Though he’s an adult now, Couch was 16 when he was sentenced for the original crime. The terms don’t expire until he turns 19 in April. If he violates probation, he could face up to 10 years in prison per death, Wilson said.
The timeline for Ethan’s return to the States is less clear, however, since it is entirely dependent on the schedule in the Mexican court that will be hearing his case.
In June 2013, he plowed into a stranded motorist and three people who were helping her. All four were killed.
The Couches have enough cash to prolong the process, but “we do not have a timeframe”, said Mr Hunter. He was sentenced to probation.
The son of millionaire parents made headlines during his trial when a psychologist testifying on his behalf claimed he suffered from “affluenza”.
The sentence and that term triggered widespread outrage, and the Couches’ alleged fleeing has drawn attention back to his case.
Tonya Couch is taken by authorities to a waiting vehicle after arriving at Los Angeles International Airport, Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, in Los Angeles.
The pair were arrested on Monday night in the Pacific resort of Puerto Vallarta, where the teenager was found with his blond hair and beard dyed black.
He initially said that would happen Tuesday; however, another immigration official who is not allowed to be quoted by name told The Associated Press that there were no seats available on commercial flights and the return would be Wednesday.
‘We’re going to come after you. “They would have had to enter, for example, as tourists, but they entered without registering”. When captured, they were turned over to the custody of immigration authorities in Puerto Vallarta.
The wealthy young American will share an open room with three other migrants at a facility known as Las Agujas, the migration official said. “This is what they have requested”, Ricardo Vera said. Ethan Couch worked there after finishing school at age 15.
“That, in my opinion, is not a sufficient punishment for the taking of four lives”, she said at a news conference this week.
