If he is not ashamed of denigrating the Khans and cannot empathize with the plight of the many Gold Star families who have lost loved ones fighting wars most of us can safely ignore – well, shame and empathy aren’t in his vocabulary. Their family is Muslim, and Khizr honored his son’s sacrifice by questioning what Trump, who has promoted fearmongering of Muslims by pushing for a travel ban, has given up for his country. “That’s just not how I was raised”.

Khizr and Ghazala Khan appear on stage at the Democratic National Convention. Trump had tweeted. “Hillary voted for the Iraq war, not me!”

“He was kind of trying to turn that into some kind of ridicule”, Mr Kaine said after a campaign event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. During the speech, Mrs Khan stood silently by his side, wearing a headscarf.

“You look at his wife, she was standing there”.

Hillary Clinton says controlling her emotions was her biggest concern walking on stage at the Democrat National Convention to become the first woman to lead a major party ticket.

Clinton said she has been in touch with the Khan family since Trump made his remarks.

Over the weekend, Donald Trump questioned why Mr. Khan’s wife, Ghazala Khan, did not speak alongside her husband at the convention, then later, amid bipartisan backlash, issued a clarification through his campaign saying he believes Captain Humayun Khan, is “a hero to our country”. Ghazala also responded to Trump in a Washington Post op-ed on Sunday, and the couple have denounced his attacks to ABC News. If he studied the real Islam and Koran, all the ideas he gets from terrorists would change, because terrorism is a different religion.

Khizr Khan – whose son Humayun was killed at the age of 28 – accused the Republican presidential nominee of vilifying US Muslims, in a steely rebuke that electrified the Democratic party convention on Thursday.

Donald Trump has made one of his most offensive comments yet. Trump responded by citing his hard work and business success.

“Every day, whenever I pray, I have to pray for him, and I cry.”

Trump did an interview with George Stephanopoulos that will air on ABC this Sunday.

He said that running for president does not entitle Trump “to disrespect” the relatives of soldiers killed in combat.

“Captain Khan was one such fearless example”. We are stronger together. After Trump’s remarks, the hashtag #TrumpSacrifices began trending on Twitter, which skewered the GOP politician for the so-called sacrifices he has made.

On the other hand, McConnell and Ryan also weighed in with a statement on Sunday, siding with the Khans against Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims entering the United States.

Donald Trump’s proposal to suspend all Muslim immigration until the USA can ‘figure out what is going on, ‘ was made last December. In Ashland, Clinton said that she “respect[s] and honor[s] the service of Captain Khan and the extraordinary dignity and bravery of his parents”.
