Alphonse Lyoura, a baggage handler at the airport, said, “It’s frightful; Belgium doesn’t deserve this”.

“She was a woman who used to regularly take the metro and who should be among the victims of the metro [attack] but the violence of the blast has made victims unrecognizable”, Lupi said.

“She was a very active woman”, Lady Sidney Jouany, a friend of Ruiz’s, told the New York Times. “California time. That is how we found out”. “That one struck with more force, as the ceiling began to fall in, and people were falling to the ground”.

Perhaps one of the most poignant stories is that of Adelma Tapia Ruiz, a Peruvian, who died in one of the airport blasts within yards of her twin daughters, Maureen and Alondra, aged three. She was at the airport with her husband, Christophe Delcambe, and their twin four-year-old daughters, Maureen and Alondra.

This is the emerging picture of the hundreds of people killed or wounded in the triple bomb attack in Brussels on Tuesday.

It was the bloodiest terror assault in Belgium’s history. Airports across Europe – and in the NY area – tightened security.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls yesterday said 10 French nationals had been injured, four of them seriously.
