Moto unveils G4 and G4 Plus smartphones in India

The key difference between the Moto G4 and the G4 Plus is a square fingerprint sensor at the front, which Motorola claims will let you unlock the phone in 750ms.

The third-gen Moto G for 2015 featured a 5-inch 1280 x 720 resolution display. “On the GPU, you get the Adreno 405 to run things through, which should have no problem handling the 5.5” FHD display. It gets pretty much the same hardware including the Snapdragon 617 processor and 3GB of RAM.

The standard Moto G comes with 2GB of RAM with 16GB of inbuilt storage though Motorola is yet to announce pricing for the smartphone. On the other hand, the Vector Thin variant is set to have either a 3GB or 4GB of RAM, with the same memory power of the former. The Moto G4 will be available with 16 GB internal storage paired with 2 GB of RAM. They’re both powered by a 3000mAh battery with Turbo Power for fast charging, but only the G4 Plus ships with the TurboCharger in the box. Firstly, it’s equipped with a 16MP camera with phase-detection autofocus (PDAF) and laser autofocus which combine to form Lenovo’s “Hybrid Focus” system. While a 5 MP, auto HDR camera is available to take decent selfies.

The fourth generation of Moto G will have two versions- Moto G4 (without fingerprint sensor and 13MP rear camera) and Moto G4 Plus (with the sensor). There was no mention of water resistance during the event. They’re going on sale at midnight on Amazon India’s online store.

Motorola also introduced the Moto G4, a slightly less featured variant of the Moto G4 Plus. And against similarly-priced competitors, the G4 holds up very well indeed. Motorola has opted for a home button which also doubles up as fingerprint sensor. Rest of the features are identical.

The differences between the Moto G4 and the G4 Plus lie deeper. Perhaps the designers could have introduced something more flattering, like a patterned back with interesting figures, a mix of colors, or something else that would stand out and give the Moto G4’s design additional splendor. The Moto G4 Plus is better, but not convincing enough. Alongside the Moto G is the Moto G Plus. Based on the renders from Blass, it also looks like the Moto G4 will have the silver detailing on the top speaker, as its predecessor.
