The tech site revealed that “Before the iPhone 4 ever landed at Verizon, the carrier had struck a deal with Motorola to deliver a smartphone that offered Verizon customers an alternative to the AT&T-only iPhone”. Additionally, it was also mentioned that aside from the much-rumored successor to the Droid Turbo flagship, Verizon and Motorola will also unveil Maxx 2. The Droid Turbo 2, according to the leak, will come with a “shatterproof” display – that sounds a little farfetched, and may be a marketing ploy from Verizon and Motorola, but we’re guessing that the display will be super-durable in any event, if not 100 percent indestructible.

Motorola and Verizon have launched nearly two dozen Droid smartphones over the past six years. Their tagline “everything you expect from a phone will change” together with an image of a shattered glass was shown. And while it may not draw as much attention as the Droid Turbo 2, it does stand out for its battery life, making it a great device for power users looking for all-day battery life and then a few. There are a few indications that the Motorola will also be releasing a similar device called the Moto X Force in the global market.

We’ll remind readers that the Droid Maxx 2 is the Verizon variant of the Moto X Play with a focus on battery life. It is expected to have a 5.5 inch display. The complete specifications, availability and pricing details of the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 and the Motorola Droid Maxx 2 will be officially announced at the event. However, it is unclear if the next Droid Turbo will run the newly released Android 6.0 or the previous 5.1.1 Lollipop version.
