Mourinho agrees £45m deal to be Man Utd manager

Manchester United don’t want that long time in the wilderness of not really winning or being successful and not challenging for titles.

Despite huge spending in the transfer market, Van Gaal has thus far failed to significantly improve United from the days of David Moyes-if indeed he has at all.

Van Gaal reacted angrily to questions about the situation after Sunday’s draw at Chelsea, having said before the game: ‘I don’t believe there is already a relationship between Jose Mourinho and Manchester United’.

Former Porto FC and Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy has urged Manchester United to hire Jose Mourinho if they are to compete with Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola next season.

Mourinho sanctioned Mata’s switch to United when in charge at Chelsea, despite the Spaniard being named in the 2013 PFA team of the year and being a firm favourite amongst the fans at Stamford Bridge.

The club’s financial position remains strong, given their world record £750 million kit deal with Adidas, but United’s performances on the pitch and their league position are of clear concern to those who invest in the club. “So why the club has to deny that, when you are creating stories?”

His arrival at Old Trafford would see the job of signing players moved from executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to him.

Current Man United manager Van Gaal has been under huge pressure since a poor string of results in November and December saw United slip out of the top four and thereafter knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages. “I don’t have to answer this question and I shall not repeat myself every week”.

Lampard told This Morning: “I don’t know [where he will end up]”. Maybe I can announce that. (You can) look at your wife, or maybe you have children, or a nephew or something like that.

“It was not a boring match and so for the third time in a row it was sparkling so I hope also I get the support of the media this week”, he said.
