I am very happy for the team.

While title talk might be a little premature, there’s certainly plenty of excitement around a team that has been able to express itself on the pitch, even at this early stage. As soon as we got the first goal we knew that we could push on, and we did, we got another one, and that was the game.

And former Old Trafford star Giggs told Sky Sports: “United fans demand attractive football, and that’s been the complaint over the last three years since Sir Alex [Ferguson] retired”.

‘I believe that we can win the title.

“I designated three – Paul, Wayne and Zlatan – but sometimes I like the players to have the feeling “this is for me”, he said.

Mourinho had not meant to use Pogba for the full 90 minutes but saw no reason to call an early end to his happy homecoming.

Pogba, making his first United appearance since a 5-0 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers in March 2012, lined up alongside Marouane Fellaini at the base of midfield in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

“It’s a natural evolution of things and it’s impossible to be faster than what we are doing with the way we are playing football and the way that the team is defending because it’s a different way to defend – zonal is much more hard to defend than man to man”.

“Leicester did it past year and won the league”. I want to win games but I want to do it in an attractive manner’. Because September we have Capital One Cup, we have Europa League, we have seven matches in September and they all play and then I am happy.

His side go top of the league – probably briefly – but there are encouraging signs that it won’t be the last time this season.

“I’m very happy. I know we can not play 90 minutes the way we want to”. For me you don’t leave for sure. We need to get used to winning because the mental part is also important, not only on the physical part.

He had only trained with his new team-mates for around 10 days and manager Jose Mourinho said before the game that he was not capable of producing a “super performance”.

Southampton hit back with a rare foray into the Red Devils half six minutes later, but Tadic was just unable to get his toe onto a tantalising Nathan Redmond cross.

Southampton had the better of the possession, total passes and passing accuracy, but failed to breakthrough the United defence, which was once again guarded by Daley Blind and Eric Bailly.
