Mourinho: Our only objective is to win the league

But, just when manager Jose Mourinho was probably thinking how he would explain at the post-match press conference that his flawless start to the English Premier League football season has been besmirched, the win materialised.

Manchester United, who won all the three games of the Premier League so far, will play their next match against Manchester City on September 10.

Rashford rose to prominence at Old Trafford after Van Gaal promoted the England global to the United first-team last season.

Second-placed Manchester United are behind Chelsea only on goals scored after Marcus Rashford struck deep into second-half stoppage time to snatch a 1-0 win at Hull City.

“We play now with a second man behind Zlatan (Ibrahimovic)”, Mourinho continued.

“When the team was chasing the ball against Leicester in the Community Shield and again tonight, he made a difference for us”.

The home side can cannot count themselves unlucky to have not taken a point from the match after a splendid defensive performance.

As United battered Hull’s defensive line in the final half an hour of a game that was played in torrential rain, this felt like a team that had faith they would find a victor in the end, just as this club did when Ferguson was patrolling their touchline.

“I want to go to the Europa League with a good squad”. If we don’t win, we don’t win, but the mentality is there and the boys are giving everything. “To keep the clean sheet is very important and to increase our confidence in the work we are doing”.

“We’ve got to focus on the worldwide break but obviously we have the big game against Manchester City when we come back”.

“We frustrated them at times and we contributed to the game by going forward”, said Phelan. “It is a great feeling when you win the points in the last minute”. The left-back continued on to congratulate the United fans who were so happy with the win saying “they were unbelievable today”.

‘Too young to be playing football, ‘ was the message from Hull caretaker boss Mike Phelan.

The Tigers vice-chairman Ehab Allam revealed in his programme notes that this could be the club’s last game with the Allam family as owners and he hoped a takeover deal with a Chinese consortium would be completed during the global break. “But now some serious decisions have to be made because the transfer window is just around the corner”. He has had flashes of good in his two matches for United this season – more against Southampton than against Hull – but he would do well to do one thing. There’s a lot of effort to get this takeover over the line.

“Credit to our players. They have to look at him but he has to travel”, he explained.
