But Ancelotti told Sky Sports: “Mourinho?”

Manchester United are under pressure after three straight defeats under Jose Mourinho, who watched them warm-up in a Northampton auto park.

The 21-year-old is still making his way back to his best after missing the majority of the previous campaign following a horrific double leg break in a Champions League match at PSV Eindhoven last September.

United have been under scrutiny of late, with reports claiming that the players are unhappy with Mourinho’s public and private criticism of them.

However, Press Association Sport understands it was not a training session.

Manchester United’s most recent meeting with Northampton Town – on 25 January 2004 – gave Cristiano Ronaldo his first taste of the FA Cup, produced three goals and kept the Reds on course to win the competition for a then-record 11th time. Seven minutes later Martial lost the ball in the build-up to Watford’s opener and four minutes after that he was substituted, still appearing to be feeling the effects of the earlier collision of heads.

But United fans will have the spectre of 2014’s humiliating 4-0 loss to the Milton Keynes Dons peering at them from the recesses of their minds; losing to Northampton is unthinkable, right? “Thanks for all your support and your messages!”
