Mourinho plays down new rivalry with Guardiola
“For two years Pep and I were in a league where the champion would be either me or him, Real Madrid or Barcelona”, Mourinho told a group of football coaches in Lisbon on Tuesday.

Rumours have been circulating over the future of a number of United stars after the appointment of Jose Mourinho.
“In a situation like this, individual fights make sense because they can influence things”.
Rooney’s position at United under Mourinho isn’t immediately clear.
All Ryan Giggs ever wanted from the Manchester United board was for them to have faith in him so he can prove he is good enough to manage the club and win titles for them but that was too hard for the United board to give him. With off-field personal issues filling the tabloids, as well as a tumultuous three years since Sir Alex Ferguson retired where Giggs has been a part of each coaching staff, United opted for the tried and true Mourinho instead of the untested Giggs.
“Look at the Bundesliga…in the last five years the same team won the title four times and in France the same team won the last four”, he said.
“In England there have been four different champions in the last four years”, he said.
But Mourinho, who poked Guardiola’s assistant Tito Vilanova in the eye in one touch line bust-up, says the greater competition in the English top flight means they can not afford to be absorbed with each other.

Jose Mourinho has indicated that his chances of success at Manchester United will be damaged if he allows himself to be distracted by his rivalry with Pep Guardiola.
