Mourinho Plays Down Wenger’s Handshake Snub

Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho’s feud will be reignited on Tuesday when they meet for the first time since Sunday’s explosive Community Shield clash at Wembley.

The Chelsea captain said: “It was a different atmosphere in the dressing room afterwards”. I think I have to do that for myself and for the club, which was to be there for the winners [and shake hands], to wait for them in a point where you miss me only if you want to miss me.

“It’s awful, it’s not nice”, Terry replied when asked how it felt to lose the season’s traditional curtain-raiser. “We have to take the positives from it. We got another 90 minutes under our belts”.

The Portuguese, positioned at the bottom of the Wembley steps, shook hands with Arsenal’s players after they were awarded the trophy, but Wenger walked behind his rival.

Now Mourinho has gone on to speak regarding the “handshake” incident and has defended his actions by stating that he is not obliged to shake the opposition manager’s hands if he does not want to. That’s the same as the manager on a daily basis. We have a great team, a great squad.

The midfielder, son of former England worldwide Mark Chamberlain, believes Arsenal’s stout defending reduced Chelsea’s chances in the game.

These were sentiments echoed by Chelsea defender Gary Cahill, who spoke out after the club’s 1-0 loss to Arsenal in the match on Sunday.

Winning the FA Cup in 2014 instilled some much needed belief in this Arsenal side.

Chelsea found themselves nearly coasting to the Premier League title last season, their fourth league triumph and third under Jose Mourinho.

“There are other teams who have also brought a lot of good players in, so it is hard to say (what will happen in the title race)”.

As for Arsenal, supporters will have to remember the era of Ted Drake to locate the last time they completed the Community Shield and title double – 80 years ago. We still have another week of that before we get down to business against Swansea.

“This year you can see from the reaction of Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, Man United”.

“In this moment we don’t have this problem”.
