Mourinho reacts to Manchester United’s shocking Europa League defeat

Like the defeat to City, the United boss was frustrated by the officials after Nicolai Jorgensen was not called offside in the build-up to Vilhena’s victor.

“You win matches, people are happy and full of confidence”.

“I’m always concerned when we don’t get the result we want”, he told reporters.

The Twitter hawks were quick to swoop on Pogba after his display in Rotterdam, with the 23-year-old now under pressure to make his mark in United’s next Premier League game against Watford on Sunday. “They have to be fit, they are, and they have to be mentally strong”. It was very poor performance from the Red Devils, especially in the first half.

Mourinho said he did not want to single out players after his changes failed to have the desired impact. Obviously some played better than others but I have to understand that some of these players haven’t played week after week like the other boys.

Mourinho called for a reality check – saying even when United were winning he wasn’t the one doing the boasting.

United won the Community Shield and reeled off three consecutive Premier League wins to raise hopes Mourinho’s influence had quickly revitalised a team that stumbled to a fifth-place finish under Louis van Gaal last season.

“I was not saying that we are a phenomenal team and we are going to destroy every opponent”.

“I said, “Yes good start, very good start” but I never was on the moon. I know that the situation is not click your fingers and everybody is flawless”. I think (they were) two matches where we could have played better but two matches where we did not deserve this.

Mourinho, however, insists that is not a concern in September.

“We’ve got to show a lot of character because it’s unacceptable to go and lose three games in a row”.

“We wanted to give ourselves a good start to the group but unfortunately, we didn’t play up to our usual standards”.

“In that moment we were pushing and they capitalised because it is exactly at that moment where we lose the game”.

“It was double unlucky because it was a clear offside (for Feyenoord’s goal)”.

“First of all I have players that are not here, I have players that didn’t play here for 90 minutes, so it’s not a problem of accumulation”, he added. Last week, however, they dropped four goals on West Ham to secure their first win of the season. I think that is an obvious situation, like it was obvious last week against Man City but it’s something I don’t control and I can not even be critical of.
