Mourinho reveals Chelsea’s objective after Bournemouth loss

Where do you think Chelsea will finish this season?

Many suggest if Mourinho was to be axed, he would have gone by now, with the lack of alternatives a saving grace.

Under-pressure manager Jose Mourinho and his side now face a crucial Champions League match against Porto on Wednesday.

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has said the Blues have “fallen below expectation levels” this season after their Premier League struggles continued with a home defeat to Bournemouth.

“I’m concerned obviously, I was concerned before this game”, Mourinho told Sky Sports. “It’s a group phase where normally you still play for points”. Chelsea or Porto, one will be out.

“You can not have bigger details than one penalty that is not given and one goal offside that decides the game”.

Last season’s Championship winners were the latest team to go to Stamford Bridge, once such a fortress, and win.

Mourinho was taken by surprise by a result Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe described as the best in their history.

Substitute Glenn Murray’s victor eight minutes from time confirmed the Premier League champion’s eighth defeat of a disastrous title defence.

“I explain the inconsistency with unlucky details”, Mourinho said.

“We didn’t score against Stoke, we didn’t against Tottenham”. “Riyad worked hard for the team, but also scored the goals”.

“Scoring goals is a lot about individuals”.

“You think there is an evolution but the next day you realise it’s not evolution it was just an individual moment, and to get results you have to be consistent and we are not because of some individuals”.

He said Chelsea had been undone by a late sucker punch from the Cherries, adding: “We lost the game exactly at the moment where we were the strongest team, in our strongest period”.

“We were really unlucky, especially to concede a goal when we don’t deserve”.
