Mourinho ‘struggling’ to find answer for Chelsea

The defending champions once again crumbled on their home soil in a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Southampton on Saturday, with manager Jose Mourinho stealing the limelight. It is said that the Blues boss creates controversy in an attempt to focus the media’s attention onto him, rather than onto his players.

Mourinho himself was utterly dismissive of that argument when what he called the “stupid” third season question was put to him. He is nearly 70 [Ranieri is 63], and he has won a Super Cup and another small cup.

Mourinho has come in for criticism for his management of Chelsea so far this season.

“Mourinho burns out his players after a year and a half, at most two years”, Capello told Gazzetta recently.

But Ramires added: “I think it very normal when we are not playing well and we are losing for the manager to take it out on the players”. Chelsea has also lost one of its first two group games in the Champions League.

As for the Chelsea claim when Radamel Falcao goes down under goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg’s challenge, I don’t think anyone would complain if that was given.

In response to Chelsea’s vote of confidence, Mourinho replied: “That makes me proud. He should be on the second row”. “He should behave better because he will be in the press all over the world”. “Chelsea’s score is really sub-standard to this moment in time”.

But whether they do it in time to launch an assault on the top four is another thing entirely.

“Something is not right there”.

The new deal will earn Ramires in excess of £70,000 a week and will keep him at Stamford Bridge till 2019. The manager enjoys a god-like reputation at the south-coast club, and the club’s owner and chairman seem to accept that they can owe much of the club’s rise to him.

The manager was also prompted to give his thoughts on Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri, who was his predecessor at Chelsea in his first spell. However, I can assure you we are working harder than ever and we will improve.
