Mourinho to accept 50% pay cut for Manchester United job
Amidst the rumours of him losing his job, the Dutchman gave a moving speech during a Christmas lunch arranged at Carrington and it has been suggested that he was warmly applauded by the squad afterwards. But asked if that was the case, he said: “No. I have seen the reaction of the players towards me”.

“The most important support is from the players, it’s always like that”.
“Of course the belief of the fans in the manager is also very important”. Last year, they believed in me.
It seems odd that there would be any question marks over a manager of Mourinho’s calibre taking over a struggling Manchester United.
“It is possible to turn this around because of many matches we have coming up, but it is hard”. It’s not even questionable in the dressing room.
United have dropped out of the top four in the Barclays Premier League, have already been eliminated from the Champions League and have not tasted victory since the win at Watford on November 21.
Those results have piled the pressure on Van Gaal and prompted speculation linking sacked Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola – who will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season – with the job.
And Carragher believes that should Guardiola choose to join City, it could result in United acting quickly to secure the likes of Mourinho, although it would not be the right decision.
Van Gaal, who has 18 months left on his three-year contract, spoke to Woodward after the Norwich loss and is convinced he is still in his corner.
Overall, Van Gaal’s side has won only three of their past 13 matches, and have scored just 11 goals in that period.
Jose Mourinho has always been an admirer of Manchester United and was tipped to take over from Sir Alex.
Van Gaal is facing a desperate battle to beat the sack following a woeful run of six games without a win.
A St Stephen’s Day trip to Stoke looks another awkward fixture for United and their veteran manager, with Chelsea then coming to Old Trafford on December 28.

“We might be playing well, or playing well in patches, or not scoring or whatever it may be, but we need to stick together and us as players need to take responsibility for that”.
