Manchester United have confirmed Jose Mourinho as their new manager, saying he is “simply the best manager in the game today”. Although it is worth stressing that he was not speaking in relation to the Premier League title he won with Chelsea in 2014-15.
Speaking to United’s in-house TV station MUTV, the former Chelsea boss said: “I think we can look at our club in two perspectives – one is the past three years and another is the history”.
Mourinho went on to express his delight at succeeding Louis van Gaal as United manager, as he suggested the job has come his way at the ideal moment following his sacking from Chelsea last December.
Meanwhile, Ryan Giggs is said to be “very unhappy” with the prospect of being demoted at Manchester United by Mourinho, strengthening the prospect of the club legend leaving after 29 years with the Premier League side.
“Most importantly he always felt that he was above the club; I do not know but from what I was hearing, I believe Mourinho doesn’t believe that he is bigger than Manchester United”.
“I’m looking forward to being their manager and enjoying their magnificent support in the coming years”.
“And giant clubs must be for the best managers and I think I am ready for it, so I could say I am happy, I am proud, I am honoured, I am everything”.
Van Gaal led United to FA Cup glory last weekend after a 2-1 extra-time victory over Crystal Palace before he was sacked on Monday night.
Manchester United will unveil Mourinho to the media on July 7, but he’s already hard at work preparing himself and the club for his arrival.

Mourinho is a famously confident manager who is full of bravado and the failure at Chelsea would have bruised him.
United backed Van Gaal with more than $350 million in the last two offseasons – money that was largely wasted by the Dutchman.
The employment tribunal, which could take seven to 10 days, will be heard in public between June 6 and 24 unless a settlement is reached first.
Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a likely marquee signing. “I don’t want us a draw”, he added.
Also, Mourinho has a CV that’s top notch.

Guardiola said he was surprised by Mourinho’s animosity toward him considering they worked together for four years at Barcelona, when Guardiola was a player and Mourinho an assistant coach.
