Mourinho Will Not Be Drawn On Pogba

The Red Devils will be paying a world record fee of €110m to Juventus for Pogba, and the Frenchman will become one of the best paid players in the world once he signs the contract with Manchester United.

The 23-year-old left United on a free transfer in 2012 after not being given what he felt were enough first-team opportunities by Sir Alex Ferguson and joined Juventus, where he has won the Serie A title in each of his four seasons at the club.

Mourinho has signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan and has repeatedly stated his business would be done once he brought in a midfielder.

“Yes [there will be a big signing]”.

When asked if the signing was close, Mourinho said: “Yes, we have 22 players and we are going to have 23”.

“In the first half we opened them up at times and the rotation was there between players, little combinations”.

“We are 11 players not two players on the pitch”.

“That’s difficult to change, but we are working hard and the players are giving everything to adapt”. We got a super striker [Ibrahimovic] and we are going to get a very good midfield player, so I am happy with the balance of my squad. The pair have been involved in a series of altercations in the past and with Mourinho seemingly annoyed with Wenger’s statement on Pogba, it just adds to the anticipation of the start of the Premier League season.

Wayne Rooney has hailed Manchester United’s summer signings as they prepare for Sunday’s FA Community Shield at Wembley.

Speaking about the deal, Mourinho insists he’ll only comment until Pogba has officially departed from the Italian club.

But Mourinho said he “did not like” his colleagues’ “unethical” criticism, while also defending his treatment of Bastian Schweinsteiger. I don’t like to speak about other clubs or players from other clubs. “I said many years ago the ideal partner for a striker is Wayne Rooney”, Ibrahimovic said yesterday.

“The market closes as you know on Aug 31 so we have plenty of time to do that but obviously I would like to do it before the Premier League starts”. “So next week we will have our squad closed”. He made his decision to go back to Manchester, four years to the day that his transfer to the Italian giants was completed.

It remains to be seen what role Rooney will play under new coach Jose Mourinho this season, with the forward having been increasingly used as a midfielder under previous boss Louis van Gaal.
