Moussa Sissoko denies Everton were ever an option after joining Tottenham

Transfer Deadline Day lived up to its reputation as Moussa Sissoko confirmed a last minute deal to sign with Tottenham Hotspur.

Sissoko looked on the verge of signing for Everton late on Wednesday but the Toffees withdrew their bid, and the France worldwide agreed a five-year deal with Tottenham. The Spurs were also interested in signing Isco Alarcón from Real Madrid, but the Spaniard is staying at Bernabéu and the North London club had to find a replacement.

Nevertheless, Hugo’s influence sounds like a perfectly reasonable partial explanation as to why Sissoko would turn off his phone and leave a private Everton jet idling on an airport runway while he finalized the best gazumping in years.

Sissoko took to Twitter to confirm that his move went through shortly before the 11pm deadline with the midfielder sharing a photo of him posing with the Tottenham shirt.

“I’m very happy, very proud to be here”, Sissoko, who impressed one and all with his performances for France in Euro 2016, told the club’s official website. Of course I would have liked it to have happened earlier, but now it’s done. And there’s no doubt that with a full slate of UEFA Champions League, League Cup and FA Cup games to come, as well as the inevitable drag of injuries, Sissoko will be afforded every chance to snatch a starting role.

He will now return to France during the global break to be reunited with Didier Deschamps’ squad ahead of his country’s friendly against Italy before taking on Belarus in their first World Cup qualifier.

“I’m really delighted to sign for this team”, Nkoudou said.

“He’s a good friend for me”, the midfielder added.

“Fans will know that sometimes the team spirit was not strong last season, and that was part of the problem why we got relegated”.

“I think it’s an very bad lot of money for a player who struggled for consistency in his three years at Newcastle”, Keown told the Daily Mail. “But I think he loves playing football even more, and this move should be good for him”, he explained.
