Koeman: “I was really angry at half time”.

Bolasie was Everton’s most risky player in an underwhelming first-half performance against Sunderland. We had good football, good pressing, we had opportunities to score more goals.

“I know my players, that was the level of the second half, not the level of the first half”.

“We had good defending, which wasn’t the problem, the problem was when we had the ball”. His switch to central midfield at the start of the second half seemed to open things up for Everton leading to his sublime first-touch pass that saw Lukaku cement his hat-trick.

The following two tabs change content below.

“I might be exaggerating but I think, with a top center-forward, we would have been close to winning the league”.

“I think it was all about fitness levels”, he said.

Ian Dennis: “I have no doubt that, in time, David Moyes will break the cycle of despondency on Wearside but, for now, the Sunderland supporters continue to endure a familiar feeling of frustration”.

Everton were happy to run the clock down for the remainder of a dreary second half.

Lukaku said: “In the first half, everybody was running through the middle and we made it easy for Sunderland”. The two goals Romelu scored with Belgium gave him a boost.

Lukaku had not scored for 11 games in all competitions going into the game against the Black Cats but managed to find the back of the net three times in 11 minutes.

With fleeting moments Januzaj helped Sunderland look unsafe at points going forward and over the course of the season he’s going to need to be a brighter spark to help influence their Premier League campaign.

“But we’re training every day with them, so we’re trying to explain to them how to adapt, how to play, and they’re taking it very well”.

“You need to support the player, the players needs to be comfortable and confident in himself, and he showed tonight again that he is one of the best strikers you can have”.
