Moyes shocked as Everton dismantle Sunderland

However, he was dramatically substituted at half-time during Everton’s 3-0 battering of Sunderland on Monday night, with the scoreline still at 0-0.

And with the 27-year-old back in the first-team fold – having played against Southampton and, ironically, Everton – he has now put pen to paper on a new contract extending his attachment to Sunderland by a further year. “We have to stop conceding goals”, said Moyes. The 11 minute hat-trick ended his 13 game scoreless streak for his club Everton.

Only the second half.

The second half was however a capitulation, with Toffees’ hitman Romelu Lukaku scoring thrice in the space of 11 minutes to stun Moyes and his charges.

Romelu Lukaku is confident his season is now up and running after blasting his way back into goalscoring form with a match-winning hat-trick at Sunderland.

Victory propelled Everton to third in the table, level on points with second-placed Chelsea, while the misery mounted for Sunderland’s ex-Everton manager David Moyes.

Poor David Moyes was humiliated by his former club and taunted with chants of: “You’re getting sacked in the morning” by the away fans. “I’m happy for the team”, Lukaku told Sky Sports.

Bolasie drove to the byline down the Everton left and looped a cross towards the far post, where Lukaku arrived unmarked once again to head in from point-blank range.

“The start in the Premier League is good – 10 points from four games – but we need to continue and we need to prepare for the next game on Saturday against Middlesbrough because maybe that will be more tough and more hard than it was in the second half tonight”.

The first of Lukaku’s triumvirate came on the hour-mark, courtesy of a header from a Gerard Deulofeu centre.

“We are in a good position in the league and we have to keep going”.

Two minutes on and Lukaku raced clear after being found by a superb sleight-rule pass by Kevin Mirallas, and the Belgian striker slotted it nonchalantly past Pickford for his hat-trick. “But that’s no excuse – when you’re in the big league, you’ve got to step up to it”.
