MPs warn Ashley to cut links with employment agency
Mike Ashley has been called on by MPs to stop using an agency to supply workers to Sports Direct’s warehouse in Shirebrook. Ian Wright, the chairman of the committee, said he doesn’t believe Transline was completely honest about why it did not have an operating license from an industry watchdog.

At the time they denied the allegations, saying they “wholly misrepresent” conditions and said that they did not give misleading evidence deliberately.
“I would expect other companies using Transline Group will want to think seriously about using a company that treats their workers and conducts its business in this way”.
Workers at the company’s base in Derbyshire are employed through two agencies, The Best Connection and Transline Group. In August 2016, Sports Direct was ordered to pay £1 million in back wages with Transline staff among those set to receive a payout.
Yesterday Mr Wright said that he “did not…”
If she fails to answer the committee’s points, he adds, it “would leave the committee with little choice but to seriously consider concluding and reporting to the House that Transline’s directors are not fit and proper to run the company and publicising our conclusion as widely as possible”.

Transline bosses were grilled by MPs in June as part of an inquiry into working practices at Shirebrook, and were later accused of misleading the committee. “We will not be making further comment at this stage”. “Obviously we find Iain Wright MP’s statements and summary disappointing, however we will prioritise responding to the latest correspondence in a full and concise manner, within the requested timescale”.
